Depression in Diabetic Patients of The CMU of Wangloom Phichit

Abstract

    The purpose of this study is to assess Depressive disorder in the diabetic patients coming to visit the Community Medical Unit of Wangloom, Tapanhin District, Phichit in the aspects of demographic data, heath problems and moods that described for Depressive disorder in the screening test. The result was analysed and compared with other data inThailandfor improving the care and management of depression in DM. The data was collected from 233 diabetic patients visiting The CMU of Wangloom from October 1,  2007 to December 28, 2007,  by using the Depression screening test of the Department of Mental Health.

    According to the study, Depressive disorder was found 40 cases (17.17%) consisting of 10 male patients (25%) and 30 female patients (75%) with the most range of age at 61-70 years. Most of the marital status were couples staying together in 25 cases (62.5%) and widows in 7 cases (17.5%).There were 6 cases of DM only (15%) 33 cases of DM with Hypertension (82.5%).

The depressive disorder found in this study may have an effect on the management of DM in these patients, so we, as medical personnel, should be aware of this condition for the sake of holistic diabetic care.
