Abstract

            This research is the Quasi Experimental Research. The objective is to study the effects of empowerment on self-care behaviors in Type II Diabetes Mellitus. The test was one group pretest posttest design. The sample group are new Type II diabetes mellitus. These 40 patients have registered for treatment at diabetes clinic in Chombueng Crown Prince Hospital. The selection was purposive sampling. The tools used in this research was the empowerment program. Such program consists of 4 procedures including the (1) Real situation discovery (2) The effect of critical thinking (3) The decision to use suitable activities methods (4) Retention of effective performance duties. The duration of this program was 4 weeks. The tools used for data gathering include 2 parts. These tools include personal information questionnaire and self health-care behavior. The Cronbach’s alpha is 0.74 The data analysis is the Descriptive Statistics. It consists of the Percentage, Median, Standard Deviation and Comparative Test by using Wilcoxon signed – rank test

            The research result indicated that after the test, the sampling has more median of behavior changes in self-care. The Statistical Significance was 0.05 (Z = -3.911, p < 0.001) The suggestion is the study of the results such as the average sugar level in the blood in order to follow the treatment result in a continuous matter.  We also carry on the study the Type II diabetes mellitus who are not good at controlling the disease.
