Abstract

Abstract

           People with pre-diabetes and health risks can prevent a progression to diabetes mellitus type 2 by having healthy behaviors. This action research aimed to develop the proactive health promotion model for prevention the new case of diabetes mellitus in the community at Ban Chaithong Village, NongSaeng Sub-district, Wapeepathum District, Mahasarakham Province.
The total of 193 participants was divided into three groups: 63 pre-diabetes persons, 112 health risks persons, 18 stakeholders. Four steps in the development of the model were: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.
The research was conducted from October 2015 to September 2016. Data collection used the interviewing, observing, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, and content analysis.

           The results revealed that 1) the proactive health promotion model for prevention the new case of diabetes mellitus in the community included:
(1) establishing a participation of organizations and citizens in community
(2) creating a health promotion system in the community (3) establishing health clubs including Exercise Club, Peer Support Club, Dharma Club (4) home visit by community participation  and (5) knowledge management and giving back the data to community 2) For the model use, no new case of diabetes mellitus occurred in the community. The number of pre-diabetes persons had fasting blood sugar at a normal level improved from 30% to 100%. 100% of health risks persons had fasting blood sugar at a normal level. The key success factors of the model development included a strengthening of community members committee, a mutual participation of organizations and citizens in community, and an efficiency management of a health promotion system in the community. Its result was effective in decreasing risk of being diabetes mellitus.
