The Development of Care System for the Elderly in the Community

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this research was analyze problems and needs in caring for the elderly and develop a care system for the elderly in the community in Sanamchai Sub-district, Muang District, Suphanburi Province.

Methods:The purposes of this research and development research. The participants were elderly, both men and women aged 60 years and over, living in that area, totaling 1,800 were divided randomly into 110 peoples using a power analysis program at 95% confidence level, effect size 0.3. Data collection were undertaken between March and June 2020. a questionnaire were base on Roth's concept,1977, 2 parts: 1. general information questionnaire and 2. questionnaire on problems and needs of the elderly. Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Standard deviation and Content Analysis.

Results: Showed that 62.50% of the elderly are female, 30.91% were in the 60-6years old, 59.09% have married couples, 79.09% have graduated in primary education and 49.09 % were unemployed. They had no disease, 34.55% ; they had hypertension the most, 32.73% 1. Problems and needs in caring for the elderly have a need and ability to take care of their body in the bath, use the toilet, dress, eating. Getting out of bed Walking / balancing And taking medication at a high level (Mean = 3.83 SD = 1.08). They had moderate level of problem on emotion and self efficacy (Mean = 2.65-3.10). 2.The development of the elderly care system consisting of community health centers family and community Local Administrative Organization and State Welfare.

Conclusion: The elderly had no problem physical self care. They had moderate level of problem on emotion and self efficacy.The elderly care system has been developed with the participation of families . Communities and Networking partners in planning together for elderly care.

Suggestion:The research suggested that the caregiver should be prepared and the participatory networking should arrange Health promotion program for elderly.
