The Efficacy of Hermit in Reducing Low Back Pain in The Second and Third Trimester Pregnancy

Abstract

This research was a quasi-experimental research, aimed to investigate the efficacy of hermit in reducing in pregnant women compared before and after session. The participants of this research were 20 pregnant women who receive an antenatal care at Burapha University Hospital with 2nd, 3rd trimester pregnancy (14-32 weeks), had low back pain. The research materials consist of 1.video media 2. manual of hermit 3.record of Hermit at home and 4.general questionnaire document about history of low back pain and the numeric rating scales of pain intensity model that had validity checked by the experts. The data were collected by the participants evaluated the pain scale before performing hermit. After that, the participants were demonstrated and practiced hermit by the researcher and performed hermit at home continuously for 2 weeks. The data were analyzed and compared the results of pain levels obtained before and after performing hermit. By using Paired Sample t-test at the statistical significance of p <0.05

The results showed that the pain scale after performing hermit with mean and standard deviation equal to 1.25 ± 1.21 with a statistically significant decrease (p = 0.000) from the pain scale before performing hermit with mean and standard deviation 4.45 ± 1.15. Therefore, this research concluded that Hermit can were alternative for reducing low back pain in the second and third trimester pregnancy and had tendency to improve the quality of life of pregnant women. However, the determination of the breath and hermit posture should be adjusted appropriately for better effectiveness and safety for pregnant women.
