Abstract

             The objective of the article was to compare luminous intensity and air temperature under conventional phototherapy and a new innovation with those under 2 deep blue fluorescent phototherapy. In two conventional 6 blue fluorescent phototherapy sets of equipment and one 2 deep blue fluorescent phototherapy, luminous intensity and air temperature at distances of 2,5,10,15,25,35 and 45 centimeters from each phototherapy devices under same environmental, measurement device and method were recorded. Two sets of conventional phototherapy resulted in 10,700 lux luminous intensity at 2 cm was 18,567 lux with air temperature 33.3 and 33.6 degree celsius respectively while the 2 deep blue fluorescents at the same distance yielded 10,833 lux at 31.0 degree celsius. Luminous intensity of 2 deep blue fluorescents at 15 cm was equal to those of conventional phototherapy at 25 and 35 cm. Air temperature under phototherapy of 2 deep blue fluorescents at 25 cm was 28.5 degree Celsius and comparable to 29.3 degree celsius reported under in the two conventional phototherapy. The two deep blue fluorescents can be used for treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia with comparable result to those of conventional phototherapy with equal luminous intensity and more lower air temperature under phototherapy with short distance from neonate and energy saving.
