Abstract

VIA and cryotherapy, a single visit approach program for cervical cancer prevention, have been implemented in Roi Et province since 2000 without any assessment of its outcome as measured in terms of incidence relative to any other areas.

During February to September, 2007, medical records on new cases of cervical cancer in Roi Et and Lampang retrospectively were reviewed from 1998 to 2005. During then, the annual cervical cancer incidence in Lampang seemed stable (100-130 cases per year) and reaching its peak in 2002- 2003, while that of Roi Et was substantially increasing from about 100 cases per year in 1999 to 210 in 2005. Since 2000, cervical cancer incidence in Roi Et had been increasing, and the program had just reached desirable coverage in 2005. Decreasing of this incidence should be expected in the year 2010, if the program maintains its course.
