Etiology of Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Pathum Thani Hospital

The retrospective descriptive study of endoscopic records of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) in Pathum Thani hospital. A total of 198 cases of UGIB in 2006-2007 were analysed according to sex, age, endoscopic finding , history of NSAID ingestion. The mean age was 53 years (range 18-89 years). Male to female ratio was 2.85 : 1. The common causes of UGIB were gastritis & duodenitis (41%), gastric ulcer (37%), duodenal ulcer (7.5%), esophageal varices (7.5%), gastric malignancy (1%) and unspecified caused (6%), while history of NSAID ingestion was 38 percent.
