Treatment Outcomes of Children with Asthma in the Easy Asthma Clinic at Bangbo Hospital, Samut Prakan Province

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the treatment outcomes of children with asthma in the easy asthma clinic of Bangbo Hospital, Samut Prakan Province. A retrospective cohort study was carried out from January 2010 to December 2014. The samples were 165 asthmatic patients aged 1 -15 years old who attended the pediatric asthma clinic of the hospital and were treated by the multidisciplinary team. Each patient was followed-up for 3 years. Data on the status and the levels of asthma control were collected at year 1, 2 and 3. It was found that there were more boys among the 165 cases. The mean age was 2.6 years old. Significant improvement of the treatment outcomes was observed as the percentage of cases with controlled level increased from the baseline of 1.2% to 57.0%, 65.5% and 70.0% from your 1, 2 and 3, respectively (p<0.05). The hospitalization rate decreased from 39.4% to 6.5%, 1.2% and 1.7% respectively. Frequency of emergency visits decreased from 93.3% to 21.1%, 15.2% and 14.2% respectively (p<0.05). Therefore, the easy asthma clinic for asthmatic children and their caregivers significantly improved the level of asthma control.
