Manual Vacuum Aspiration for Abortion at Sing Buri Hospital - การขูดโพรงมดลูกด้วยเครื่องดูดสูญญากาศ กรณีแท้งในโรงพยาบาลสิงห์บุรี

Abstract

               The frequent abnormality reported in the first trimester of pregnancy was abortion, including incomplete abortion, missed abortion, early fetal death in utero and blighted ovum resulting in termination of pregnancy. The original technique was dilatation and curettage, of which some complications could be found.

               Manual vacuum aspiration was a technique of suction curettage for first trimester abortion that had been performed for many years. The author wanted to compare manual vacuum aspiration with sharp curettage in terms of safety and satisfaction. The cross-sectional study included women of gestational age less than 12 weeks, presented with abortion and had to terminate pregnancy. Volume of blood loss, pain scale and satisfactory score of the two groups were compared. The complications were also recorded. The results were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test at 0.05 level of significant and 95% cofidence interval.

              It was found that the blood loss and pain were statistically less in the manual vacuum aspiration group than the dilatation and curettage group. It was also found that the satisfactory score was statistically greater in the former group than the latter, while no complications were reported. The manual vacuum aspiration was appropriate as a major procedure in the abortion of less than 3 months of gestational age.
