Abstract

The purpose of this survey research was to evaluate the leaderships of district health offices and the Health center chiefs' perception of their job satisfaction. The population included 25 chiefs of district health offices and 176 health center chiefs in Changwat Ubon Ratchathani. Data were collected in a questionnaire survey and analyzed by descriptive analysis, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis.

The results showed that the self-assessed opinions on the transactional leaderships of chief of district health officers' were at a high level (100%) while health center chiefs generally rated them at a moderate level (52.8%). Interestingly, the chief of district health officers' opinions on the transformational leaderships were, likewise, at a high level (100%) while health center chiefs' opinions were mostly at a high level (51.7 %) except for the individualized consideration and the intellectual stimulation which were at a moderate level. The job satisfaction of health center chiefs as a whole were mostly at a moderate level, but the accomplishment of work, the responsibility and the relationship between colleagues were mostly at a high level. There was no significant correlation between health center chiefs' demographic data and their job satisfaction (p>0.05). The relations between transactional leaderships, transformational leaderships of chief of district health officers and the job satisfaction of health center chiefs as a whole were significant, mostly at a moderate level (r=0.443, 0.474, p-value <0.001) except the charisma was significant mostly at a low level (1 = 0.398, p-value < 0.001). Moreover, only transformational leaderships of chief of district health officers can possibly predict the level of the job satisfaction of health center chiefs (62.5%).
