Prevalence of risk factors and effect of rehabilitation of daily living level 0f stroke patients in Somdejprasangkharach XVII Hospital

Abstract

Abstract

           Objective : To study the risk factors of stroke patients and their outcomes of the recovery of the patient s ability to use the daily life before discharge from hospital.

           Method : This study was retrospective, descriptive, and analytic study. Investigation of medical records of 120 cerebrovascular disease patients undergoing rehabilitation with complete history from October 1 2020 – March 31 2021 at the physical therapy and Rehabilitation department of Somdejprasangkharach XVII Hospital  by studying basic information, risk factors data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics such as number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and daily living ability score admitted and discharge to compare using quantitative statistics pair t test.

           Results: 120 cases of cerebrovascular disease were found in males more than female, average age 63.12 ± 14.58 years old. Most of them had ischemic stroke with 96.62%. The most common risk factor affecting patients with underlying disease were hypertension 87.5%, hyperlipidemia 72.5% and found that 77.5% of patients had physical inactivity, 62.5 % are obese. Diabetes, current smoke, alcohol use and atrial fibrillation were found to be less common: 32.5%, 24.1%, 13.3%, and 7.5%, respectively. The Barthel Index of activities of daily living scores before and after receiving rehabilitation was 52.92 ± 31.93, 72.21 ± 30.36, respectively. When comparing the scores, it found a statistically significant difference between before and after receiving rehabilitation (p < 0.001).

           Conclusion: Most patients with cerebrovascular disease in Somdejphasangkharach XVII Hospital were elderly and the main risk factor for the disease were hypertension and hyperlipidemia and physical inactivity, so the healthcare providers should be awere and emphasize about this for prevention stroke, stroke patient receiving rehabilitation had statistically improvement in Barthal Index score when discharge from the hospital to the community.
