The Development Program Therapy for Smoking Cessation in Student Who Studying in One of Secondary School Located in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Proivince

Abstract

Introduction : Secondary school students are the high-risk group of drug addiction especially tobacco addiction. However, have not had an appropriate therapy procedure for this group. Therefore, the program harmonizes with student lifestyle and problem need to be developed. This complement outcome might result in a stop and reduction of smoking. The tobacco addiction situation was analyzed an input data for developing program therapy for smoking cessation in student who studying in one of secondary school located in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Province. This action research was carried out over April 2022 – September 2023, 70 target population and co-investigators were tobacco addiction students and their family members, school personnel and responsible person from Kosum Phisai hospital. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected, content analysis was treated for qualitative data, number, and percentage for quantitative data.

Results : 1) By the year 2021, greater school found tobacco and electronic tobacco addiction student with nicotine addiction at
a moderate level (4.97%), a high level 1.11% and a highest level 0.33%. Although there is a white school policy that safe from drugs and vices and legal  non-smoking school, problem cannot be solved. 2) Developing therapy program for smoking cessation in student was done with the meeting of committees for situation analysis, program education for students and developing therapy program for smoking cessation in schools that including smoking cessation in school with standard school without smoking, family consultation, treatment with developed program procedure, 1-2 follow - ups for family consultation, 7 follow - ups after the treatment therapy during a year, information returned to stakeholders for problem solving guideline in each cycle until found the completed program. 3) Results of over year follow - up presented that student admitted in the program 100%, stopped smoking 87% and 13% changed from a highest nicotine addiction to non-nicotine addiction.

Conclusion : Program development therapy for smoking cessation in student who studying in one of secondary school harmonizes with student lifestyle affect student therapy and followed up for helping from network parties included fitting look after way will induce student to the absolute withdrawal from smoking
