The development of guidelines for guaranteeing the waiting time for laboratory test results and reducing the waiting time for laboratory test results is an action research project involving 20 participants, including medical technologists and outpatient department staff. The research is conducted in October 1, 2023 – September 30, 2024 using the development cycle based on the concepts of Kemmis & McTaggart. The objective is to develop guidelines for ensuring the waiting time for laboratory test results and to reduce the waiting time for laboratory test results.

The study found that the development of guidelines for guaranteeing the waiting time for laboratory test results through the creation of a graph of the relationship between waiting times for laboratory test results to calculate appropriate assurance of waiting times and targeted problem analysis to create new guidelines helps the outpatient department manage patient appointments more effectively. Additionally, reducing the waiting time for laboratory test results by using LEAN concepts and information systems to define operational guidelines has resulted in a decrease in waiting times, thereby increasing patient satisfaction.
