Abstract

ABSTRACT

           This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the life skills enhancing program for preventing unwanted pregnancies in teenagers, Cheun Chom Subdistrict, Cheun Chom District, Maha Sarakham Province. The sample consisted of 62 male and female teenagers aged 15-19 years in Chuen Subdistrict, Chuen District, Maha Sarakham Province. They were divided equally 2 groups with 31 each of experimental and control group. The experimental group received the life skills enhancing program for preventing unwanted pregnancies in teenagers while the control group received conventional care for 24 weeks. Data collection used questionnaires for life skills. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

           The results revealed that after experiment, the mean scores of life skills in all 6 aspects, namely creative and think critically, self-awareness and compassion for others, self-esteem and social responsibility, dealing with emotions and stress, decision making and problem solving, and relation building and communication in the experimental group were significant higher than before the experiment (p-value <0.001) whereas the control group were not different. When comparing the differences of the mean scores after the experiment between the experimental group and control group found that the experimental group had significant higher mean scores than the control group (p-value <0.001). The results indicate that the program can be able to strengthen life skills to prevent unwanted pregnancies in teenagers.
