Factors related to suicide attempt at Prapokklao Hospital Chanthaburi

Objective : To study factors that affected suicide attempt at Prapokklao Hospital Chanthaburi.
Method : Retrospective descriptive study of Thai patients who attempted suicide and admitted in the ward of Prapokklao Hospital Chanthaburi from April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2019. The data were reviewed from the suicide surveillance report (report 506.s) and medical records. All data were analyzed by a descriptive statistical method in terms of frequency distribution and percentage. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine the associated factors of a suicide attempt.
Results : 121 Thai suicidal attempters were admitted. The prevalence of suicide attempt is 0.32%. About 58.7% of suicidal attempters were female. Peak occurrence of suicide attempt was found in married (48.8%), age between 20-29 (30.6%), secondary education (65.3%), and were employees (41.3%). Most of them were first attempt suicide (71.1%). The most common method was drug overdose (39.7%) and the cause of attempt suicide was interpersonal relationship problems (70.2%). The suicidal attempters have received a diagnosis of adjustment disorder (37.2%) and depressive disorder (36.4%). Factor associated with suicide attempt was married (OR= 4.508, p-value=0.012, 95%CI 1.389-14.626)
Conclusion : Married was the factor that affected suicide attempt.
