Treatment of Avulsed Permanent tooth with prolonged extraoral dry time over 60 minutes : Case Report

Background : Avulsion of the permanent tooth is one of the injuries of the tooth which is commonly found in children. It generally occurs in the maxillary central incisor which affects facial esthetics.

Objectives : Immediate replantation of the avulsed tooth is recommended treatment and results in good prognosis. However, this ideal treatment may not be always possible. As a result of this ; proper guideline and urgency treatment methods are necessary.

Methodology : Case report of maxillary left central incisor which was prolonged extraoral dry time more than 60 minutes; retrospective study design from dental OPD card during  1 August  2022 to 1 August 2023 at Dental clinic Phangnga hospital

Results : This report presented a case of maxillary left central incisor which was prolonged extraoral dry time more than 60 minutes before immersed in cold plain milk for 3 hours. After that the avulsed tooth was replanted and splinted with stainless steel wire and resin composite and the endodontic treatment after 10 days. The follow up visit is every 1 month, 3 months and 6 months was asymptomatic and the root was not resorped. For 1 year of follow up visit a small resorption of root was occurred. 

Conclusion : Factors success rate of replantation for the avulsed tooth is the extraoral dry time and the media solution. The proper extraoral dry time less than 60 minutes and the proper media solution which is available in any place is cold plain milk.
