The Program Development for Auditing Health Care Information System Database Quality: A Case Study in Nhong Hong District, Buriram Province, B.E. 2551

Abstract

          The objectives of this quasi-experimental research were to assess a quality auditing program of health care information system for health centers (18 database files), and to provide database management information system of health centers then sending them to provincial medical office to combine as a provincial health information database. A computer program (HCIS_MINI) was implemented for a year during October 1st 2007 - September 30th 2008 at Nhong Hong District, Burirum Province, developed according to 103 requirements of National Health Security Office and Bureau of Policy and Strategy, Ministry of Public Health. In the following phase, it was polished further to meet additional 109 requirements. The results revealed that after program implementation, the overall accuracy of database increased from 43.44 percent to 98.43 (p<0.001) while 16 of 18 database files were improved (p<0.001) leaving out the MCH database file and the PP database file. The accuracy of every health center information increased (p<0.001). Users of the program were satisfied. It could serve the users’ needs, while provided fast data analysis and convenient linkage to the Universal Coverage database. After expansion to every health centers, the provincial health information of Burirum was improved to be rated the country number 3.
