Abstract

Health personnel are among population at risk for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Their risks can be largely attributed to shift work which prevents them from several healthy behaviors. Moreover, personnel with NCDs can jeopardize hospital’s quality of care. This study was aimed at describing health status and NCDs risks of health personnel in Mae Moh district, Lampang province. Results of the study would be used for NCDs prevention programs in high risk groups. Study population comprised of 110 health personnel working in public sector; community hospital, District Health Office and Health Stations. A questionnaire was designed to collect personal data, health knowledge and health behaviors related to eating, exercise and stress reduction. The overall results revealed that health personnel had good health status, high health knowledge and health behaviors, particularly their exercise and eating habits. However, those aging below 35 had higher risks of NCDs while personnel aged 35 or over were found to have high to very high body mass index (BMI), high blood cholesterol and triglyceride. These findings suggested that a group of  health personnel still had inappropriate eating habits and lack of exercise.
