Publication ethics

Journal of Health Science of Thailand sets guidelines and ethical standards for the publication and dissemination of research articles and academic papers as follows:

Responsibilities of a Journal Editor

  1. The editor must operate in line with the journal’s objectives and improve the journal to meet standards.
  2. The editor is responsible for selecting, assessing, reviewing, and verifying articles for publication in the journal, ensuring that the content aligns with the journal’s policy.
  3. The editor must check the accuracy and quality of academic work, including verifying articles for copyright violations and plagiarism before publication.
  4. The editor must avoid conflicts of interest with authors, article reviewers, and editorial board members, ensuring that journal articles are not used for commercial purposes or individual academic purposes.
  5. The editor must maintain the confidentiality of author and reviewer information and not disclose it to unrelated individuals during the article evaluation process.
  6. The editor must use academic reasoning to evaluate articles without bias toward authors based on race, gender, religion, culture, politics, or institutional affiliation.
  7. The editor must not remove or alter the content of articles, including comments from the reviewers.
  8. The editor must follow the process set by the journal and take appropriate action if any ethical violations are found.

Responsibilities of a reviewer

  1. The reviewer must not have any conflicts of interest with the author or any other reasons that would interfere them with providing independent feedback. If such issues arise, the reviewer must inform the editor and decline to review the manuscript.
  2. The reviewer must maintain the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript and not disclose it to unrelated individuals.
  3. The reviewer should assess the manuscript within their area of expertise, focusing on the quality of the work. Personal opinions without evidence support, and personal attacks or offensive remarks should avoided.
  4. If the reviewer notices that the manuscript has parts that resemble or overlap with other published works, they must inform the editor.
  5. The reviewer may suggest that the author read or reference articles that could help explain or improve their manuscript. However, they must ensure that any references are based on academic reasoning and not used as a condition for manuscript acceptance.

Responsibilities of the author

  1. The author must be honest, ethical, and adhere to research integrity when conducting research and writing research reports and academic works.
  2. The author must ensure that the work is based on factual information derived from the study, without distortion or false data.
  3. The author must properly cite the works of others that appear in their own work.
  4. The author must not plagiarize or copy the work of others.
  5. The author must take responsibility for their work and guarantee that the work has never been published or is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  6. The author must clearly identify all contributors, their roles, and the proportion of responsibility in cases where the work was not written alone.
  7. The author must disclose any funding sources that supported the research (if applicable).
  8. The author must indicate whether the research was approved by a specific research ethics committee; if approval is not required, an explanation must be provided.
  9. In cases where the author violates the guidelines, especially items 2, 3, 4, and 5, the journal will impose a publication ban for at least 3 years and will inform the author's affiliated institution, as appropriate.
