EVALUATION OF ORAL HEALTH SERVICE PROJECT AMONG PRISONERS IN CHONBURI CENTRAL PRISON

Abstract

This evaluation research aims to evaluate Oral Health Service Project among Prisoners in Chonburi Central Prison in terms of context, input, process, and product. The research sample of quantitative research was 393 prisoners who received oral health services conducted by Dental department of Banbung Hospital year 2022. Simple random sampling from prisoners’ name lists who received active dental investigation service was used. Thirty-eight key informants included dental staffs, prison warden, welfare prison officers, and prison volunteers. Research instrument consisted of questionnaire, focus group guideline questions, and in-depth interview guideline questions. Descriptive statistics which are frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation were used for quantitative analysis and content analysis was used for qualitative analysis. Quantitative research results revealed that the level of prisoners’ opinion toward context, input, process, and output of the project were high level (M=4.41, SD=0.35; M=4.10, SD=0.22; M=4.00, SD=0.18; M=4.18, SD=0.17). Prisoners aware and needed oral health service. Service area, medical materials, and staffs were suit for service. Oral health service plan was appropriate for promote the better oral health in prisoners. Qualitative research results showed that all partners aware and needed oral health service for prisoners. Oral health service resources were quite sufficient, but the number of oral health staffs should be considering serving the adequate service. The project was conducted as planned. The prisoners and staffs clearly understand service guideline. The project output reached the objectives, but the continuous service is still required. Related partners should use this research result as guideline to develop the better service
