Effectiveness of the health behavior modification village model development

Abstract

Effectiveness of the health behavior modification village model development. The mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approaches was used in this research, which aimed to study in basic characteristics of health behavior medication village model, study of development process for health behavior medication village model, and study of outcomes and impact for development, lesson learned and concept development based on experiment of leadership. The executive officers of the process of health behavior modification village were interviewed for this study including village committees, public health officials and networks as supporter the process of health behavior medication village where were got the best practice awards at district level in fiscal year 2014. The best practice awards were 11 villages from 11 regional health.

The results revealed that : The basic characteristics of health behavior medication village model were as follows : They were small size villages. family size were quite small. Most of them were farmers and employees. The proportion of males relative to females in population. The priority of their health status was Hypertension, followed by Diabetes Mellitus, Cardiovascular and Cancer in health behavior medication village. The risk factor was eating unhealthy food, lack of exercise, cumulative stress, high smoking and drinking alcohol, dump waste and chemical use in health behavior medication village. Development potential of community was many community integration activities that was the main power to drive and manage health problem. The processing of development found that concept of development of all villages consist of 7 steps developed by Ministry of Public Health; Step 1 : Team Building. Step 2 :Studying Fundamental Data of Village. Step 3 : Village Development Plan. Step 4 :Learning Activity among People. Step 5 :Surveillance of Health Behavior. Step 6 : Knowledge Shari ng with Project Team. and Step 7 : Evaluate in Village Development. However, They integrated between 7 step and their experience to increase development effectiveness village.

Outcomes and impact for development in health behavior medication village model were as follows: Outcome of changing body shape was smaller waist, normal BMI of people risk in health behavior medication village. All villages also had a better outcome. Consumption behavior on the fruits and vegetables and exercise increased according to indicator. All villages developed innovation to improve consumption behavior on the fruits and vegetables and exercise. Impact occurred to health behavior medication village was the health model, observational study and learning space in community. Moreover,7 steps concept was adapted to other health projects. and lesson learned and concept development based on experiment of leadership were as follows: The drive project depended on provincial public health officer who was the main person with intent and confident in procedure and got support and empowerment from chief provincial public health officer. District public health officer, sub-district health promoting officer and community participated to development project. The important network partners were sub-district health promoting officer, follow by sub-district administration organization officer. The expectation to develop project of sub-district health promoting officer was that health behavior medication village was determined as an indicator and all area had to develop more effective health behavior medication village. The expectation to develop project of district and sub-district officer was that health behavior medication village should be prepared and willing. Moreover, health behavior medication village had to develop process gradually for more effectiveness.

The proposed policy in long range planning for behavior change or community health promotion was based on each area. The operate of development plan depended on community readiness and condition. Role of Provincial Public Health Office, District Public Health Office and Ministry of Public Health should only be monitor, control and support effective health behavior change plan.
