Abstract

This explanatory mixed-methods research aims to approach management for developing competencies of the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators affiliated with the Samphran District Public Health Office, Nakhon Pathom Province. A research design consisted of two steps. The first step began with surveying the needs of the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators for developing competencies. The samples were 19 administrators and 89 staff of the sub-district health promoting hospital saffiliated with the Sampran District Public Health Office. The research instrument used in this step was the General Information Questionnaire. The data was analyzed by mean, and standard deviation. The second step included evaluating problems, barriers, and approach management for developing essential competencies for the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators. The purposive samples were 10 administrators of the sub-district health promoting hospital. The research tools used in the second step composed of interview forms, and focus group discussion, note taking form. The data was analyzed using content analysis.

The findings revealed that the needs of the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators for developing competencies was 4.38 (Χ = 4.38, SD = .47). Individual needs for developing leadership capability had the most average in high levels (Χ = 4.55, SD = .41). The needs of staff working in sub - district health promoting hospital for developing essential competencies for the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators was 4.56 (Χ = 4.56, SD = .38). Individual needs for developing teamwork competencies had the most average in high levels (Χ = 4.66, SD = .39). The findings from the focus group discussion indicated that inappropriate workloads were expressed from the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators as the most significant problem/barrier affecting development of competencies. Finally, an evaluation of approach management for developing essential competencies, self-potential analysis, and knowledge and experience sharing from the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators will be able to promote and develop approach management for developing essential competencies for the sub-district health promoting hospital administrators.
