HEALTH PROMOTION BEHEAVIOR OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE AT RISK ON STROKE DISEASE IN HEALTH REGION 6

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to : Determine the level of knowledge on stroke disease, level of belief, attitude on health, perception on health and disease and health promotion behavior , compare health promotion behavior of the people based on their different personal status and examine relationship between knowledge on stroke disease, belief, attitudes on health, perception on health and disease and health promotion behavior of people who were at risk on stroke disease. People living in Health Region 6 who were 35 years old and over were the target group of this study. The samples were 400 people randomly selected. Interviewing were used as a means to collect data. The data was analyzed with statistical methods to determine frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient.           
The research findings were as follows : Knowledge on stroke disease of people in the target group in Health Region 6 was at a moderate level. The belief and attitude on health, perception on health and disease and health promotion behavior of the people on the whole was at a high level. Except exercising was at moderate level. The people who had different gender, marital status, smoking and consuming alcoholic drinks had different health promotion behavior with significant of 0.05. Knowledge on stroke disease was related to health promotion behavior of the people who were at risk on stroke disease with significant of 0.05. Belief and attitudes on health and perception on health and diseases has no relation with health promotion behavior. Recommendations to reduce the risk of stroke were educating knowledge of stroke prevention and promotion proper exercise behavior to the people who were at risk of stroke.
