Survey Research Study of the Experts’ Opinions to Perform a Tool for The Assessment of The Professional Nurses’ Competencies for Caring HIV/AIDS Patients

The purpose of this study was to survey the experts’ opinions about professional nurses’ competencies for caring HIV/AIDS patients by Delphi technique. A self – assessment questionnaire for assessment the competencies of nurses caring for HIV/AIDS patients in BIDI was performed.
The results were illustrated the professional nurses’ competencies for caring HIV/AIDS patients consisted of 3 groups of core competencies. 1) General competency about attribute, personality and attitude of professional nurse, 2) Professional competency about innovation, research and knowledge management, and 3) Technical competency about duty performance.
The average competencies of professional nurses caring for HIV/AIDS patients in BIDI were good level (Mean ± S.D. = 3.7028 ± 0.3171). Their Generic competencies were good level (Mean ± S.D. = 3.7140 ± 0.8481) and also their Professional competencies were good level, while their Technical competencies were medium level (Mean± S.D. = 3.4219 ± 0.9938). The first priority of the competency should be improved was a knowledge for research.
The results from this study were useful information for chief executive to use for human recruitment. Furthermore these data could be used as a guideline for improvement the performance of professional nurses for caring HIV/AIDS patients in the future.
