The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of motivational interviewing program to reduce systolic and diastolic in patients with hypertension. This research was a quasi-experimental study that repeated measure design. The sample of 93 volunteers who were purposive selected. The instrument was motivational interviewing program, a record of counseling, and pressure gauge. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistic.
The results founded that 1) Comparison between immediately before and after the trial, before experimenting with following 3 and 6 months showed that changes in systolic <140 mm.Hg were 90.3%, 91.4%, 89.2% and decreased by change of level 76.3%, 76.3%, 82.8% respectively. For diastolic <90 mm.Hg was 92.5%, 94.65, 88.2% and decreasing by change of level 86.0%, 87.1% and 86.0% respectively. 2) Comparison of systolic and diastolic values between post-test immediately and follow-up for 3 and 6 months showed the systolic values <140 mm.Hg were 57.0%, 55.9% respectively, decreases with change level with 31.2%,33.3% respectively. For the diastolic value <90 mm.Hg were 45.2%, 55.9% respectively, and decreasing by change of level 32.3%, 38.7% respectively. Comparison of follow-up periods between 3 and 6 months had the systolic <140 mm.Hg 58.1% and diastolic <90 mm.Hg 29.0%. 3) The mean of systolic values before trial was to 165.505, follow-up for 6 months was the lowerest = 137.527 4) The mean of the diastolic values before trial was to 99.656, follow up with 6 months was the lowerest = 81.366. The conclusion was program of motivation interviewing could help control blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
