Effectiveness of Wiping with Khiao Hom Medicine and Traditional Antipyretic Wiping in Reducing Body Temperature in Patients with Fever.
Abstract
The study of the effectiveness of green aromatic wiping and the traditional method of wiping to reduce body temperature in patients with fever. This quasi-experimental research was conducted to compare the effectiveness of green aromatic wiping and the traditional method of wiping to reduce body temperature in patients with fever in the inpatient department of Saohai Chalermprakiat Hospital, 80th Anniversary. The objectives were to compare the effectiveness of the traditional method of wiping to the traditional method of wiping to reduce body temperature in patients with fever and to study the satisfaction of wiping with green aromatic wiping and the traditional method of wiping to reduce body temperature. The sample group was divided into 2 groups, 25 people in each group, totaling 50 people. Body temperature was measured before and after wiping to reduce fever at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes.
The results of the research found that the group that received green aromatic wiping had a more effective temperature reduction than the group that received the traditional method. The difference began to be significant from 30 minutes after wiping (p = 0.038) and became more obvious at 60, 90 and 120 minutes (p < 0.001). The mean BMI of the green aromatic herb group was significantly lower than the conventional group (p = 0.005). Gender, height and weight were not different between the groups. The green aromatic herb group had higher satisfaction than the conventional group in all aspects, including comfort during wiping, appropriateness of duration, fever reduction after wiping and feeling more comfortable after wiping, especially in the areas of “fever reduction” and “comfort after wiping”, which had the highest mean score (3.00) and no standard deviation. On the contrary, the conventional group had a moderate level of satisfaction and a higher variance of responses, reflecting diverse feelings and inconsistent care experiences.
Recommendations from this research include: The effect of green aromatic herb should be studied in populations with similar age ranges and BMIs to reduce bias. In cases where fever-reducing drugs are not accessible, green aromatic herb should be used as an alternative for fever reduction. Caregivers should be trained on the use of herbs to reduce fever for maximum benefit. and reduce side effects that may result from improper use
