บทคัดย่อ

Background: In 8-9 December 2016, Ban Wang Fon Primary Care Unit rapidly reported to Song Epidemiology Center that there were 49 patients whom suffered from food poisoning. Noticeably, all of the patients studied at Wang Fon Sitthirathbamrung School so that the Surveillance and Rapid Response Team (SRRT) started outbreak investigation at that time.

Objectives: For epidemiologic study for confirm diagnosis and outbreak control.

Study design: The data was collected by active case finding, environmental study, and diagnostic investigation.  By using Case-control study, the study also analyzed the correlation among the factors that can cause this outbreak.

Results: In 8-9 December 2016, Food poisoning outbreak occurred at Wang Fon Sitthirathbamrung School.  There were 49 patients and attack rate was 19.37%. The maximum attack rate was at 12 years of age.  Almost patients had various symptoms and signs such as headache, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness that were concomitant with food poisoning characteristics.  Obviously, the diagnostic investigation showed that the food poisoning outbreak caused by enteropathogenic Escherichia coli infection.  According to the outbreak, the study revealed that fried eggs with pork chops had Odds Ratio (OR) 39.11 (95%CI, 4.99 – 306.49 and p < 0.001) and fried noodles with meatballs had Odds Ratio (OR) 33.10 (95%CI, 4.22 – 259.89 and p < 0.001).    

Conclusion: In 8-9 December 2016, there was food poisoning outbreak occurred at Wang Fon Sitthirathbamrung School caused by fried eggs with pork chops and fried noodles with meatballs so that can made the policy for outbreak control based on cleanness and sanitation.
