Development of nursing practice guidelines for patients with sepsis at emergency department Sungmen Hospital, Phrae Province

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a nursing practice guideline and the result of the development of nurse practice guidelines for patients with sepsis at
emergency department of Sungmen Hospital. Applying the Iowa Model conceptual framework for nursing development. The sample consisted of
1) 12 registered nurses in the emergency department. 2) 30 patients with sepsis after using nursing practice guidelines based on the MEWS. who have
new diagnosed by a doctor with sepsis and receive treatment at the emergency department. The research instruments consisted of nursing practice guidelines based on the MEWS for patients with sepsis and the nurse’s satisfaction questionnaires. Contents validity of nursing practice guidelines had been approved by 3 experts and the Index of Item-Objective Congruence were 0.60–1.00 as well as the Cornbrach’s alpha coefficient were 0.95. The data were using description statistics including frequency, percentage and standard deviation analysed.

The results of this study indicated that 1) There are nursing practice guidelines for for patients with sepsis at emergency departments of Sungmen Hospital. 2) All 12 participated nurses agreed that it was plausible to implement these CNPGs. Most nurses satisfied at highest level (66.67%). 3) Patient outcomes after applying the guideline had not mortality rate among patients with sepsis in Sungmen hospital.
