Abstract
The objectives of this study are to: 1) study the functional gain of stroke patients following receiving intermediate care services (IMC), using the Barthel Index (BI) to track changes (∆BI); 2) evaluate the efficiency of intermediate care services (∆BI / total IMC); and 3) identify factors influencing access to intermediate care services at Nan Hospital. This was a retrospective cohort study, with the population consisting of stroke patients who received acute phase care at
Nan Hospital between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023, totaling 811 patients. A sample of 240 patients was selected through purposive sampling method, in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research instrument included a general and clinical data record form and the Barthel index, a high reliability (κ = 0.88) and validity tool for assessing activities of daily living. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression analysis.
A total of 91 patients completed the rehabilitation program. The result revealed that the average function gain was 5.81±4.12 points, and the average rehabilitation efficiency was 3.07±2.97 points per rehabilitation session. Access to services was negatively impacted by increasing age and residing outside of Muang Nan District.
