Development of a Program to Delay Renal Failure Using Traditional Thai Medicine for Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease at Somdejprasangkharach XVII Hospital
Abstract
Abstract
This research focuses on research and development objectives related to renal rehabilitation in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease. Specifically,
it aimed to achieve 2 key objectives: 1) to investigate the current situations, problems, and needs associated with renal rehabilitation in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and 2) to evaluate the effectiveness of program to delay kidney impairment in Thai traditional medicine for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease. The study seperate into 3 phases. Phase 1 investigate the current situations, problems, and needs associated with renal rehabilitation in patients with kidney impairment. Phase 2 developing for program by using Thai traditional medicine. Finally, Phase 3 assesses the outcomes of this program.
The study's population consists of patients with Stage 3 kidney impairment, with estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) ranging from ≥30 to ≤59 ml/min/1.73 m². Purposive sampling is used to select the 44 samples. The research tools include the program to delay kidney impairment using Thai traditional medicine and the recording form for glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) before and after program participation. Statistical methods employed for data analysis comprise descriptive statistics and t-test.
The research findings revealed that 1) the sample group expressed a demand for activities such as education, exercise, meditation, and Thai traditional medical services including herbal compress, cupping therapy, and foot massage, 2) the developed program included knowledge dissemination, exercise, meditation therapy, and Thai traditional medical procedures for 12 weeks, conducted by a multidisciplinary team, and 3) the program significantly improved kidney filtration rates and self-care behaviors statistically (p < 0.05). Thus, the developed program, incorporating Thai traditional medicine, could renal rehabilitation in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.
