Participatory Development Process of Teachers in Preventing the Spread of Drug Abuse in Secondary School Students, Sawaengha District, Angthong Province.

Abstract

           This action research aimed to determine teachers' participatory development process in preventing the spread of drug abuse in secondary school students, Sawaengha district, Angthong Province. Three phases of the research were: 1) situational analysis phase 2) development and implementation phase using the PRECEDE framework to determine factors including leading, facilitator, and complementary factors; and
3) evaluation phase. The sample was 34 teachers. The research was carried out for 12 weeks, from November 2020 to January 2021. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and content analysis. 

           The results revealed that 1) the epidemic of drug abuse among students tended to decline because the teachers played more a role in participating activities 2) process model developed under the PRECEDE framework found that (1) leading factors included policies, plans, guidelines, and operational solutions activities that contribute to decreasing epidemic substance abuse (2) facilitator factor were policies, action plans, roles, guidelines, and operational solutions activities that contribute to lower a prevalence rate of substance abuse in schools and (3) complementary factor were communication via a mobile application, social media such as Facebook and Line, resulting in easier for students to access drugs 3) after implementation of the process, the level score of teachers’ participation for preventing the spread of drug abuse was significantly higher than at the baseline (p < 0.05). The satisfaction in preventing the spread of drug abuse was at the highest level. The practice score of teachers’ participation for preventing the spread of drug abuse was significantly higher than at the baseline (p < 0.05). The results indicate that the development process is efficient and effective in preventing substance abuse among secondary school students.
