THE DEVELOPMENT CARE MODEL OF DRUG ADDICT WITH MENTAL DISORDER PATIENTS BY COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION: CASE STUDY OF NHONG WAENG VILLAGE MOO 1, WAENG NANG SUB-DISTRICT, MUANG DISTRICT, MAHASARAKHAM PROVINCE

Abstract

Abstract

Objectives: 1) To study situation of drug addict with mental disorder patients care 2) To develop the care model of drug addict with mental disorder patients 3) To evaluate the effective of developed care model in Nhong Waeng village Moo 1, Wang Nang sub-district, Muang district, Mahasarakham province.

Methods: This participation action research was carried out during February 2022 - July 2023. About 80 target population and co-investigators were drug addict with mental disorder patients, relative or intimate person, village health volunteers (VHVs), community leaders, policeman, health workers from Wang Nang health promoting hospital, responsible person from Mahasarakham hospitals and Monks. Both qualitative and quantitative data were gathered. Content analysis was investigated for qualitative data while number and percentage for quantitative data.

Results: 1) By the year 2020 – 2022, found an increasing of red group and causing violence, mental health disorder relapsing, not continued treatment, relapsing drug use, lacking care awareness of family, data obscuring, socially stigmatized, be conceived and scared. 2) Appointed a project team, situation analyzed, VHVs buddy trained, allocated patient care area, set Tawan Fasai Sarn Duang Jai for caring psychiatric village patients, continued followed up, four parties (Police, Public health, Provincial administration, Local organization) functionally worked, information feedbacked to stakeholders for problem finding and guideline for each circle until achieved the appropriated participation model. 3) Model development effectiveness found that there were 15 drug addicts with mental disorder patients that divided in to four groups; seven were red group, four were yellow group, three were green group and one was white group. One year followed up, found the decreasing of violence, no red group, three yellow, ten green and two white.

Conclusion: All steps of the developed care model by community participation was functioned with network parties. Thenceforward, appropriated model for the context of district was completed.
