Abstract
This research was aimed to investigate existing empirical condition relating the management of material data in Chumphae Hospital, which is a general hospital in Chumphae. The research was conducted as an attempt to increase material management accuracy and to enable fast inspection of remaining materials in response to the requirement of the administrators. The participants consisted of 650 hospital staff members in charge of material management in Chumphae Hospital. The data was collected via questionnaire and satisfactory assessment form prior to the interpretation of this data via the application of percentile and mean. It was observed that most of the officers in charge of material management were able to apply the rules and regulations to their material management exercises. However, the material management problems were confined to the purchasing process, which was sometimes made complicated for the hospital to obtain full reimbursement. Moreover, the purchase process was delayed while the repeated and delayed distribution of material was also observed. These problems made it difficult to identify what actually the number of the used material was. This ambiguity made the planning of the future purchasing of the material inaccurate.
As a solution to this problem, it is important to have a clear communication between the material management officers and other hospital staff members about the needs of the hospital to be in compliance with the description of the complicated material and purchasing rules. With an attempt to reduce the culprits in material and purchasing management and errors on maintenance report, a material management program called “Easy Stock” was introduced for the material management in Chumphae Hospital.
After the application of this program, the material management was observed to be accurate by 98.20 percent. Furthermore, the satisfactory level on all aspects of the program was rated at 98.26 percent. The item that was rated with the highest satisfactory score, 99.89 percent, was Obtaining the correct material and reducing work repetition, followed by; The effective material control and material delisting, and The fast distribution of material, each was presented with the scores of 98.33 percent and 97.98 percent, respectively. For a more effective analysis of material management, it was suggested that collaboration from all hospital’s sections, The General Management Department, The General Administration Department and the Monetary Section, to name a few, should be taken into account.
