Abstract

           The purpose of this descriptive research was to study health behaviors of primary adolescents. Four hundred of seventy-three students in a school in Khet Ratchathewi, Bangkok, participated in the study. Based on a set of questionaire, interviews of students were conducted during June 2005. Descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, and mean was used for analyses. The results showed that over four-fifths of the students ate 3 meals a day. Lunch (97.3%) was the meal most student often had more reqularly than dinner (94.1%) and breakfast (87.5%). Every student (100%) ate snacks (4.5 package/week on average). The majority (83.3%) of students had soft drinks (5.5 glasses/week). On average, students slept 8.34 hours/day. More than 60 percent of the students went to bed at 8-10 pm. When looking at the category of daily activities and exercise, the students watched television (97.9%), played computer games (68.9%), and took additional courses (85.2%). More than half of males (50.9%) and females (58.5%) appeared to be within a designated range of physical development. The findings suggested that health knowledge should be promoted for students to improve health behavior.
