The Effectiveness of the Hypertensive Patients Health Care Model in Out-patient Department of Phrom Buri Hospital, Sing Buri Province-ประสิทธิผลของรูปแบบการดูแลสุขภาพผู้ป่วยโรคความดันโลหิตสูงในแผนกผู้ป่วยนอกโรงพยาบาลพรหมบุรี จังหวัดสิงห์บุรี
Abstract
This quasi-experimental research was post-test-only design study on blood Pressure level, complications of hypertension, self-care motivation and self-care health behavior of hypertensive patients in Out-patient Department of Phrom Buri hospital after using the Hypertensive Patients Health Care Model. Samples were 60 hypertensive patients aged over 35 years attending the Out-patient Department, Phrom Buri Hospital, Sing Buri Province : 30 in an experimental group and 30 in a control group. The Hypertensive Patients Health Care Model, adopted four steps: 1) appointment 2) screening 3) self-help group and health promotion 4) counselling. In data collection, each was to complete a set of self-administered questionaire on self-care motivation (Cronbach - Alpha a 0.83) and self-care behavior (Cronbach - Alpha a 0.76). The experiment was carried out during October 1 - December 31, 2007, and data were analyzed by independent sample t-test and descriptive statistics.
Most of the hypertensive patients (86.67%) in the experimental group could control blood pressure to be at normal level with limited complications (13.33%) relative to the control group (56.67% and 23.33% respectively). In that order the experimental group had high level of self-care motivation (average score 2.62) and self-care health behavior at good level (average score 1.39). While the control group scored less, on average (2.50 and 1.29) in the same areas respectively. Differences of the average scores of both groups were not significant (p > 0.005) on self-care motivation yet significant (p < 0.05) on self-care behavior.
