Prevalence and Risk Factors of Pesticides Toxicity of Farmers in Sanpatong District, Chaingmai Province

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and risk factors of pesticides toxicity in tarmers. Inis was analyc cross-secuonal stay. study on for larmers at catchment area in sanpatong hospital, Chiangmai province. Data were collected in September to October 2017 by questionnaire and blood test. It was found that farmers were 61.45 year old on average. Most of farmers were female, agricultural employee, no underlying disease, having history of using pesticides in the last 3-7 days and more than 7 days per month. The use of pesticides was for eliminating insects. The prevalence of pesticides toxicity (acetylcholinesterase in risk/unsafe level) in farmers was 79.5%. Age, sex, occupation, underlying disease and aim of using pesticide were not associated with pesticides toxicity in farmers. In contrast, the duration since the last use and number days per month for using pesticides were found to be risk factors of pesticides toxicity in farmers.
