The Screening for Risks of Cardiovascular Diseases in Maptapud Municipality, Rayong Province

In 2006, Maptapud Industrial Estate had been plagued by air pollution problems. TheMaptapudHospitalhad launched a screening services provided by a mobile medical unit for on-site medical relief, treatment primary and secondary prevention, and health promotion. Screenings for risks of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia were also included. It was reported that hypertension prevailed among 13.73 percent of those underwent blood examination, DM among 18.66 percent, hypercholesterolemia among 51.52 percent and hypertriglyceridemia among 24.40 percent. The rate of hypertension was lower than that of Thai people (2004) because of the low response to the mobile medical unit. On the contrary, the rates of diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia were higher than those of Thai people (2004) because the screening test was highly sensitive and strongly needed further verification.
