Novel Influenza A (H1N1) in Phichit Province - การระบาดไข้หวัดใหญ่สายพันธ์ใหม่ 2009 ในจังหวัดพิจิตร
Abstract
This study was aimed at investigating an outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) in Phichit province from June 15 to August 14, 2009 by comparison between confirmed cases and non H1N1 infected cases in terms of epidemiological data, clinical presentations, laboratory findings, treatments and clinical outcomes. There were 160 confirmed cases and 163 non H1N1 infected cases.
There were respectively; 56.3 percent and 21.9 percent in confirmed cases who were 10-19 years old and 0-9 years old, while 26.4 percent and 21.5 percent in non H1N1 cases were 10-19 years old and 0-9 years old, respectively. The most common presenting symptoms were cough (92.5%), fever (86%) in confirmed cases and fever (82.7%), cough (75.5%) in non H1N1 cases; others symptoms were similar. Treatment with oseltamivir and hospitalization were reported in 66.3 percent and 59.3 percent of confirmed cases; 58.3 percent and 64.4 percent of non H1N1 cases, respectively. Duration from onset of symptoms to having nasal swab collections (suspected cases) was 3.35 days in confirmed cases and 3.85 days in non H1N1 cases. Results of complete blood counts were similar in both groups.
The study reported epidemiology data, clinical presentations, laboratory findings, treatments and clinical outcomes of the patients who were confirmed novel influenza A (H1N1) cases and non H1N1 cases in Phichit province. Such information will become useful for further management of novel influenza A (H1N1).
