Attitude and Readiness towards ASEAN Community of Nurses at the Medical Nursing Department in Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand

The purposes of this survey research were: (1) to study the attitude of nurses toward ASEAN Community and (2) to study the readiness toward ASEAN Community of nurses who worked at the Medical Nursing Department in Siriraj Hospital. The sample included 200 registered nurses who worked and had at least 2 years experiences at the Medical Nursing Department in Siriraj Hospital. They were selected by the simple random sampling technique. Questionnaires were developed by the researcher and used as the research tool, comprised 3 parts as follows: (1) demographic data, (2) attitude of nurses towards ASEAN Community, and (3) readiness of nurses towards ASEAN Community. The second and the third parts of the questionnaire were verified by 3 expertises and content validity index were 0.70 and 0.73 respectively. The Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficients of the second and the third parts were 0.78 and 0.92 respectively. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, and standard deviation.Research findings were as follows. Registered nurses (53.5%) rated their attitudes toward ASEAN Community at the high level (mean=3.74, SD=0.67), whereas registered nurses (58.7%) rated their readiness toward ASEAN Community at the medium level (mean=3.10, SD=0.72). This is a challenge for both administrators and practitioners to further develop.
