Abstract

This study aimed to develop a clinical nursing practice guideline (CNPG) for in Pre-operation Traumatic Brain Injury patients attending Samutsakorn Hospital. The IOWA model was used as a conceptual framework to develop the CNPG. Fourteen relevant studies were selected and related knowledge was extracted for the development; and the draft CNPG was validated by 5 experts, using the criteria recommended by the AGREE Instrument (the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation). The appraisal scaor 82.0%, and the experts endorsed the use of the guideline. The CNPG was then tested by 10 experienced registration nurses in the 3 surgical wards; and utilyzed on 10 adult patients with traumatic brain injury. The results showed that the CNPG was highly feasible to use in the hospital context, and the guideline was practical in all steps. The authors recommended that utilization of the CNPG should be preceded with a pilot study in order in order to adjust the procedures to be in line with the hospital context and to integrated with the quality improvement program and the outcome research.
