Effects of the Primary Nursing Model in Caring for Total Knee Arthroplasty Patients on Level of Pain, Patients Satisfaction and Nurses’ Job Satisfaction

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research was two groups pre-post test designs with purpose were to studied level of pain in post Total knee arthoplasty (TKA), compared patients’ satisfaction and compared nurse’s satisfaction. Sample was 2 groups: (1) Osteoarthitis’s patients who was treatment by TKA, to be selected by purposive sampling and 30 patients divided into 15 control and 15 experimental groups, and (2) surgical nurses were 12 person. Studied was carry out in 1 june to 31 july 2014. The research instruments were primary nursing handbook, satisfaction questionnaires of nurses and patients, and pain recording form. The data were analyzes by means, standard deviation, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Mann-Whitney U Test. Major results of the study were as followed 1) Means of pain score in patients with TKA in control and experimental groups were were not statistically significant difference . 2) The overall patient’ satisfaction in control and experimental groups were not statistically significant difference. 3) The overall nurses’ satisfaction after using Primary Nursing System was statistically higher than before using Primary Nursing System at 0.05 significant level. Conclusion ; The research shows. Nurses were satisfied with the performance increase. We should support the format. Motivation To achieve developmental assignments that promote independence within the nursing profession more.
