Ectopic Pregnancy in Phetchabun Hospital

Sixty-three cases of ectopic pregnancy were admitted to gynecological ward, Phetchabun hospital from January 1st, 2006 to December 31st, 2007. The incidence of ectopic pregnancy during 2-year prospective descriptive study was 1:88 births or 11.29/1,000 live births. It occurred mainly in first gravidarun (42.80%) and the age group of 21-30 years (41.27%). The common presenting symptoms were abdominal pain (87.30%), vaginal bleeding (74.60%) and amenorrhe (57.14%). The ectopic pregnancies were tubal in 96.83 percent of the cases and common at ampulla part (50.79%). Laparotomy was performed in 57 cases (90.48%) and salpingectomy was done in 48 cases (76.19%). Six cases (9.52%) had expectant management with complete resolution.
Ectopic pregnancy was the gynecological emergency, need early diagnosis and proper management to decrease morbidity, mortality and increase fertility in the future.
