Abstract

Bronchial asthma is a chronic disease which needs lifelong treatment.  It is hopeful that an Easy Asthma Clinic, established according to the standard guidelines for asthma control on May 15, 2005 in Tha Muang Hospital, would provide effective treatment of asthma.

This study was conducted to evaluate the outcomes of the treatment, based on the GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma) guideline 2006, on asthmatic patients visiting Tha Muang Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province, during the period January 1, 2006 - December 31, 2007.  Information obtained on the 137 patients (males 32.12%, females 67.88%) was that the in-patient admission rate decreased from 105 to 42 (60.00%) and 26 (75.24%) respectively.  The number of visits in the emergency room decreased from 317 to 89 (71.92%) and 64 (79.81%) in the year 2006 and 2007 respectively.  After the patients were treated in the Easy Asthma Clinic, their health conditions were substantially improved (97.22%) and were better informed (>75%).
