Efficacy of the Use of Plastic Poly Film Bag for Measuring Intrapatum Blood Loss in Labor Room, Chaiyaphum Hospital
Keywords:
blood loss, intrapartum, plastic poly film blood bagAbstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a plastic poly film bag for measuring intrapatum blood bags compared with the amount estimated by visual approximation. The samples were 30 of pregnant women having uncomplicated normal labour in Chaiyaphum hospital from April to May 2016. The research tools were (1) plastic poly film blood bags, (2) forms for recording the amount of intrapartum blood loss, and (3) an assessment form for the nurse midwives regarding the use of plastic poly film measuring blood bags, including a 10-point questionnaire which were approved and scored for the content validity index (CVI) as 1.0 by three professionals. The data was collected by labour room nurses, and were analyzed by paired t-test. It was found that the amount of blood loss measured by plastic poly film blood bags was significantly higher than that measured by visual approximation (p<0.05). The blood loss measured by plastic poly film blood bags and visuality was 264.66±103.01 cc. and 203.33±71.83 cc., respectively; and the average difference between these two measurements was 61.33 cc. (95%CI=35.91-86.74). In addition, fourteen labour room nurses had provided positive comments on the use of the plastic poly film bag. The results from this study indicated that the plastic poly film blood bag was an accurate assessment tool for measuring intrapartum blood loss. Therefore, this tool should be wider used to estimate the intrapartum blood loss for all mothers as well as those undergone placental removal and curettage.
