Field Head Saver Innovation to Stop Bleeding and Help Fix the Endotracheal Tube

Abstract

“Emergency field head saver” is an innovation that aims to help stop bleeding and prevent further complications from blood loss. It is made of elastic bandage made into the head shape which is adjustable to fit any head sizes. It can be worn easily without lifting the patient head. It also helps fix the endotracheal tube in place during resuscitation. And most of all, it is affordable. The objective of this study was to develop[ a bandage that help stop bleeding from head and facial injuries. It was conducted in 3 steps:  (1) study the problems and theoretical concepts; (2) create and test the innovation, (3) evaluate the use of the bandage. The study tools included the innovative bandage and the record on the recipient. The study period was from October 2014 to September 2015. Data collected through the use of questionnaire and were analyzed by descriptive statistics. It was found that when applying the innovative bandage in patients with head injuries and in crisis, the bandage was effective in the control of bleeding. While using the bandage in patients on endotrachial intubation, the tube was not slid or moved. Moreover, the time to wrap the head bandage was reduced from the original 2 minutes for ordinary bandage to less than 30 seconds. In addition, the used bandage could be washable and reusable. Users found it was very convenient to use.  High satisfaction was observed among personnel, patients and their relatives.
