The objective of this study was to assess self-care behavior of type II diabetes mellitus patients. It was conducted as a descriptive study from June to July 2015. The samples were 89 type II diabetes mellitus patients registered under the responsibility of Hun Na Ngam Sub-district health promoting hospital, Sribunruang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province. They were selected by simple random sampling. Data were collected through direct interview, and were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics: Pearson’s product moment correlation. It was found that most patients were female (62.9%) (Mean=58.8, SD=11.0), single (80.9%), had primary education (82.0%), and work as farmers (64.0%). Their overall knowledge on self-care was at medium level (Mean=22.7, SD=3.4) with high level of overall attitude (Mean=2.6, SD=0.3). Their self-care behavior was at high level (Mean=2.6, SD=0.3). In addition, it was found that overall knowledge and attitude were significantly correlated with self-care behavior, (r=0.37, p<0.001) and (r=0.43, p<0.001), respectively. Therefore, responsible health personnel should put more efforts to improve knowledge and understanding of the type II diabetes patients in order to promote proper self-care behavior so as to achieve high quality and sustainable health care for patients with type II diabetes.
