Effects of Statin on Slowing Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease - ผลของยาลดไขมันกลุ่มสเตติน ต่อการชะลอการเสื่อมของไตในโรคไตเรื้อรัง
Abstract
The objective of this retrospective study was to assess the effects of statin on slowing progression of chronic kidney disease by comparing declining renal function between the patients who received and did not receive statin. Review of complete medical records of chronic kidney disease patients with 25 - 60 years of age and serum creatinine 2 - 4 mg/dl, was carried out during January 2005 - March 2006 in Nakornping hospital. The clinical data of 25 patients who received statin and 69 patients who did not receive statin mostly showed no differences, except proportion of angiotensin conversing enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) use and HDL-cholesterol in the former group were higher (p=0.012 and 0.031,respectively). The study showed no difference in declining rate of renal function, measured by glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and creatinine clearance (CCr), between the patients who received and did not receive statin. The follow up period were 14.2 = 4.0 and 15.4, 8.4 months, respectively. In conclusion, statin showed no effect on slowing progression of chronic kidney disease.
