Follow-up Evaluation of Provincial Health personal Undergone Short-course HIV Counseling Training, health Region 4

Abstract

The objective of this study was the evaluate the health personal from provincial health offices who had been trained as HIV counselor by the office of Communicable Disease Control Region 4 (CDCR4), Ratchaburi. Each of the 242 trainees was requested to fill-up a queationnaire and returned to the CDCR4 for analysis. The aspects to be evaluated included knowledge and attitude on efficient counseling as well as problems and obstacles relating to the provision of counseling services.

There were 126 respondents. Most of them had high score on HIV counseling technic evaluation with correlated well with their positive attitude on counseling. Only 57 (45.2%) were actually working as HIV counseling in their health facilities. Soon after the completion of the training, 26 counseling units were established, giving a total of 28 units in the 7 provinces.

This is useful to develop provincial counseling network and social service network, and to formulate an appropriate training guideline on HIV counseling.
