บทคัดย่อ
This evaluation was a quasi-experimental research comparing 2 groups selected by systematic random sampling with service-sequence numbers and compared pre and post-results of intervention within 6 months. The research instruments included a set of questionnaire on knowledge and attitude. Outcomes of self-care also included ARV drug advocacy, doctor’s appointment and levels of CD4. The statistical analysis was based on descriptive analysis in percentage, arithmetic means, standard deviations, maximum, minimum values and inferential analysis in paired t-test and independent t-test at the 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that the empowerment of HIV/AIDS patients had positive effect on patients’ self-care behaviors. After the experiment, the levels of knowledge, attitude and CD4 values were higher than those reported in the pre-test with statistical significance at 0.01 level. The patients’ visits became regular and ARV drug advocacy fully strengthened. Complications were then minimized. Infected patients had a network for sharing their experiences and helping each other. The extended treatment could be prevention from drug resistance which was important for HIV/AIDS patients. Health officers should pay attention to patients orientation and holistic care while supporting new information on medication. Application of empowerment model can become beneficial to health care for cancer and other chronic disease patients.
